Act completion - making sure your save state sticks

Just a word of warning to folks, act completion doesn't stick in what I would call an intuitive fashion.

I just completed act2 & started act3 with one of my characters. I then left the game to high five everyone I know because, you know, I'm a legend and I killed that act boss, high fives all round.

At this point, I could remake games in act3, but I decided I wanted to go back and farm a bit before starting to crack act3 skulls. I set my quest point back a bit, and got the warning dialogue that my current game save state would be deleted. Unfortunately, I assumed that this would still save that I had beaten act2, but just lose any progress I'd made on act3 quests, so I clicked 'ok'.. *bzzt* wrong. Returning to a previous act before you've completed any 'segment' of the next act's quests loses you access to that act. Now I have to go back and finish act2 again & hurt my hands with more high fives.

Not the end of the world, but it seems like a bit of a dick move, especially in inferno where you're generally checking your progress & going back to farm. Learn from my mistake and be more of a badass than I.

Yep, I had this happen to me on inferno act 1 of all places. Killed butcher, got into act 2, left game. Was effectively forced back to redoing the butcher. I think its just safe to start the first quest in the next act to make it stick

I don't suppose this gives you better drop rates for the second time does it?

I have so far not 'gone back' yet, I have just mooched about. Wasn't sure how it worked, it seemed that if I kept playing the same char and resumed it returned me to the same place with all behind me cleared but if I had gone and played my other char and gone back I was in a 'fresh' game if still at the same stage. Admitedly I hadn't experimented yet.

if you change quest in the character screen, you'll start from town with waypoints up to that point.

I've had varied results when going back to my own game after playing with a party, sometimes i carry on where i left off, sometimes i carry on where i was previous to the multiplayer game, tis all a bit wierd.

Hi,

On a related theme. I managed to finish hell mode using my level 52 Wiz. When I continued it put me back to the beginning of hell mode, The fallen Star Quest as Inferno isn't unlocked until you reach 60th level. All other quests are missing so I have to do hell again.

Could someone invite me into Act 3 or 4 hell please? Maybe that would work. I don't really want to do it all again.

Hopefully sorted now, started act 4 for pif and did the first quest bit. Would have just gone to the end of the act but not sure if that'd force you to immediately do diablo to save the state & figure you may as well play through it again to level anyway Hope it works out!

Thanks Smurfy. Act 4 seems to have stickied so I'll stay there until I'm 60th and do Diablo again - he should be a lot easier next time
