Battleship for Lvl 4 missions...

As I am not very good at fiddling with PvE ship builds, I thought I would ask you lot for some help. :)

In a few days, I will have Large Projectile Weapons at 4, Cruise Missiles at 4 and will pick up BS 4. I am planning to building a pve only BS that I can use to run lvl 4 missions reliably without too much danger. So I am not planning to pick up any of the specialisations for either weapon systems. I have decent drone abilities, some of the projectile weapon damage boosting skills and the same for missiles.

I much prefer shield tanking to armour tanking and passive tanking to active tanking. Only BS I will be able to fly are Minmatar ships.

Having said all that, do you think it is possible to build a decent BS? Running level 4 missions is hopefully my income stream soon. I am not planning on spending too many skills especially on BS, as I want to move on to pvp eventually and I plan to stick with small and medium (preferably medium) ships for that. I just need a revenue stream.

Suggestions are very welcome. :)

Minmatar ships aren't the first choice for PvE Battleships. I would normally recommend either a Dominix, a Raven or an Apocalypse depending on your skills.

For a shield tanking Minmatar BS you probably want to go with the Maelstrom.

Here is a fit for L4 missions:

Highs
8x 1400mm Named/T2 Artillery Cannon (mission specific ammo, default to EMP L)

Mids
1x 100mn Afterburner II
1x Large Shield Booster II
1x Shield Boost Amplifier
3x T2 Shield Hardeners (mission specific)

Lows
1x Damage Control II
2x Capacitor Power Relay II
2x Gyrostabilizer II

Rigs
2x Capacitor Control Circuit
1x Core Defence Capacitor Safeguard (or a third CCC)

Drones
5x Light Drones (anti-frigates)
5x Medium Drones (anti-cruisers)

There is plenty of play available with low slots. Replace CPRs with Power Diagnostic System IIs if power grid is an issue. With excellent capacitor skills and Minmatar Battleship IV/V, you can safely drop the DC for a third Gyrostabilizer and gain a DPS boost of roughly ten percent by relying a bit more on the Shield Booster for tank.

The beauty of this fitting is that it can do even the toughest L4 missions if you pay attention to your capacitor and warp out if/when necessary. This fitting is not cap stable, but when properly rigged it will give you pretty much all the time you need if you pulse your shield booster and afterburner smartly. If you want to be lazy with your hardener selection (not recommended if you drop the DC), then you can usually get away with defaulting to 2x Invulnerability Field IIs and 1x Photon Scattering Field II.

Be sure to have the Angular Velocity column checked on your overview, because 1400mm guns are quite finicky with their tracking. I get good hits below 0.01 m/s; your EFT may vary. The upside to this is the possibility of killing a cruiser in one or two volleys if you catch it just right due to the crazy alpha strike that the Maelstrom can produce.

If I do not turn the afterburner on, I am cap stable at 47% with everything else running. I still need shield management 5 to run this, though. Let me play around with that a bit. Will see what I can do to put this all in. :) Nice build, thanks for the help. :)

I dropped shield boost amplifier 2 for one of the normal ones. Now I just need to get to Battleship 3 to be able to fly it at all and 4 to fly it well. Everything else I got. Cool build. Fits perfectly with everything I want to do, as well as takes advantage of where I got my best skills (shield tanking and gunnery). :) Now I just need to move to level 3 missions and salvage everything, because the ship alone is at 105 mill in my area and I have 125 mill...

When I move on to level 4 missions, then I definitely won't be able to follow the old adage of "Don't fly anything you cannot afford to lose..." ;) I just hope I will be able to recoup on the expenses reasonably quickly. :)

Well, if you are a bit closer to safe territory, sure, I am up for it. :) I cannot fly (or afford) Battleships, yet, though, so I would have to bring my BC. :)

I am currently working my way towards that agent, too. I have to get through most of lvl 3 first, though. :) I expect the battleship Req built above will set me back ca. 150 mill, so I am trying to earn that, too. On a different note, does anybody here have Leadership skills? I picked some up on the off chance that I ever got into a gang that didn't have any. I got most stuff on 3.

My main character had all of the Tier1 skills to V, half the Tier2 to V and a range of secondary skills trained a long way up including Fleet commander. It's very useful in a PvP environment where you are handing out speed, tackle, shield and armor bonuses to the rest of your fleet through various wings, via Command Ships, though the boosts they give via the normal ships in gang are negligible at least.

That said, Battle cruisers have bonuses to Gang warfare mods. If you and your partner decide on a particular route, such as shield tanking, then a Battleship tank / heavydps and a BattleCruiser to do anti-frigate / cruiser duty, running a gang mod, is an excellent choice.

Plus Hurricane's are teh SEzX0r!

ps. remember to insure your BS. it's another 30 mil ish for plat insurance, and you will lose it.
