Champions League

We were abysmal against Porto, but I'd have taken a draw before the start. No english team have ever beat them at their gaff and all the top four sides have played there.

Poor, poor result for Chelsea. Their easiest game in a strong group (Rosenborg at home), so they really needed to win it. Its not stretching the imagination to say they could easily not progress through the group stage.

A loss for them at the Mancs this weekend and it wouldn't surprise me if Maureen gets sacked.

Looking forward to watching the Gooners tomorrow night; reckon they will run away with their group.

I went for Liverpool to win the league and they started well, but now i'm getting slightly worried because Rafa's started rotating the squad at stupid times again (doesn't he learn?). They should of had 3 points away at Portsmouth and still been on top, instead Rafa starts resting key players (after he played a full strength team vs Derby at home).

Chelsea look grim again this season, grinding opposition down and hoping Drogba or Lampard will nick it for them, with both out they look very average.

Jose is too obsessed with his own image that he fumbled around for appropriate excuses - unfortunately for him he has spent 100s of millions at Chelsea and thus there are none when his side can't beat a bunch of moose-herding herring enthusiasts

I like Jose but i don't think he will last the season. He was looking under pressure last night and Roman wants to win with style! I personally prefer the 4-4-2, we play both wings and through the middle instead of lumping it to Drgoba and bypassing the midfeild.

On a side, Jose can't really be blamed for the players not being able to hit a barn door, at one stage ITV showed a stat saying 24 shots 4 on target! and not all were from range.

Liverpool are looking good. I just wonder if they can be consistant enough to last the season on top.

I'm looking forward to watching gooners tonight, i have seen much of them yet this season.

Maureen simply isn't that great a manager. He only knows one way to win and thats not expansive.

A lot of people seem to have forgotten what a good succession of managers Chelsea had before him; each classy, each progressing the club and the squad. Maureen walked into the easiest job in world football, taking into the account the club and squad he inherited and how much money he has been given.

Doesn't seem like the club is going to back down on how Abramovich wants the team to play and you can be sure he wants the team in Moscow for the CL final, with Shevchenko playing. I can see Maureen being sacked sooner rather than later.

I disagree I Maureen is a good manager, you don't win the Champions League with Porto if your not. The first 2 seasons at Chelsea were fine as well, it's only since Roman tried to take a more active role in the club the whole things started to fall apart. Ballack and Sheva weren't really Maureen's signing and have unbalanced and unsettled the team, his teams don't play very exciting Football (compared to Man Utd or Arsenal anyway) but it is pretty effective.

Personally I think he should have walked out as soon as Roman started to undermine his position and while he maybe be somewhat arrogent he is quite entertaining unlike say Rafa :p

If you want bad managers Leicester City have just appointed Gary Megson i'd be quite happy to swap for Maureen :(

I don't understand it when I hear people say that. He had a fantastic array of players when he was at Porto; a very strong side (link here).

They're still a good side, even though many of his best players moved on to Europes big teams when he left. As I said, no English team has ever beat them at home and all the top four have played them.

He is a good manager in the sense that he can employ one style of playing very well, but he isn't the sort of manager that can build a foundation for long term success, or employ various tactics depending on his opponents.

hmm looks like i was right. I just hope we can bring someone in who can help us to play a more expansive attractive game.

Having said that, thanks Jose for the fun and trophies. By far our most successful manager despite all the money, boring football, bad publicity debates.
