Fancy Shoulderpads

Just checking summat, when you get to Inferno does the 'exalted shoulder Blacksmith plan' drop all over the place? I got two last night, if they're common as muck I will just flog it but if not am happy to give the spare away.

The normal exalted (4prop) patterns dropped a lot for me while I was farming act1 on my monk many months ago (edit: I wrote years here, which may be a comment on what act1 farming did to my hairline). I think the pallium may have been the plan that dropped the most in Warriors rest, but I may be misremembering :)

Pattern drops aren't super common but, with the new patch, not only will the drop rate be upped by 400%, they are also adding a set of new 'bind on account' pattern drops from sub-bosses, one of which is a shoulder pattern that'll have a chance to roll best in slot stats & rival vile ward, so you're probably good to vendor your spare, unless someone is looking to complete their set of all blacksmith patterns ever :)

Cheers, I wasn't convinced it was anything special/rare considering the dearth of plans I have found so far. Staff of Herding from Izzy being the only one and I haven't managed to find all the ingredients anyway. Not desperate enough to start farming for it either mind you!

Crafting feels like it's in an odd place right now. You can be self-sufficient salvaging & crafting through hell using the standard recipes, patterns drop through inferno but the costs are high enough & the likelihood of a good roll low enough that it's tough to justify spending the gold & materials on the crafts at all. If you're totally ignoring the auction house, you may be able to accent your finds with the occasional 6 prop craft, but the 4 props are mostly going to be disappointing.

The new patch patterns will do something for that but, unless you're farming up a fair amount of gold, getting lucky with AH-able drops or playing the AH regularly, you're going to have to be pretty selective about crafting or be prepared to be permanently broke.

I'm likely to craft a bit out of curiousity using the gold my witchdoctor with silly pickup radius gathers, but since I'm not terribly rich I expect to do so rarely & with poor results.

As an aside, I've also not bothered completing a staff of herding, maybe one day ;)

Aye, the gold is defo different in DIII, I felt a bit poor whenever I wasn't maxing out my stash and the biggest char regularly hits max dosh. I can't see that happening in DIII. So far my wonga is still slowly increasing but since I have hit Inferno I have noticed the repair bills getting a bit higher.
I had deployed my Ferrets of fortune so we shall see if that makes much of a difference. I would hate to have to resort to AH or even worse RMAH!

This crafted wd knife is doing the rounds atm, proof that you can get lucky and hit a whole bunch of amazing stats on one craft: http://i.imgur.com/RtnH3yz.png

Not terribly likely of course but, just in case I was being too negative about crafting, it is worth pointing out that you can get some really impressive rolls (and if you're not going to use the AH, it's a reasonable way to dump all your gold :p)

:D hey that looks quite impressive! Naah you weren't being overly negative, not compared to some of the understandably cynical posts I have read on the Bnet forums.
Apart from the lovely Windforce that Pif gave me (which I have unlimbered when my everyday hand crossbows aren't cutting it) I have got by with what I have found and not had to repeat too many sections too often ...................yet. As you say we shall see, I aint likely to keep bashing the crafting buttons. I get bored after about 4 or 5 attempts so not likely to bankrupt myself too quickly. S
Some of the recipes I have seen are damn expensive!
