MechWarrior Online

Is anyone playing this FTP game? It seems to have a horribly steep learning curve, just moving around is problematic for me!

I'm trying to use Dragon heavy mechs and need to use 3 to unlock Elite abilities, I have a Flame that's weak, a 5N that's working but would value any advice on a 3rd Dragon and loadout that can work . . .

I was a Founder but haven't spent a minute in the game because of my lame arse PC. New PC arrives next week so hopefully will get some time in it as it looks promising.

From watching youtube - Don't try to be a hero, and play your role :). Try and join a merc corp and get some regular team mates to drop with.

I thought it would have been nice to at least get a couple of lances from the Clan but doesn't appear that is possible :(

Have they fixed the small window when you are in the Hanger, there is no way to have it so it is on your native resolution which puts me off. I did play it a lot last year in closed beta and I enjoyed the game play, just wish they fix that window at the start.

Couldn't see it being addressed by devs in any discussion - it's still beta and they're probably looking at getting other stuff out and fixed for the main element of the game. Having said that people playing on laptops with y x 768 screens can't see the bottom of the launcher so it's an issue with it being fixed dimensions.

Tempted to give this stick a whirl when I do finally start playing. Will need to have a read first at how well the game plays away from mouse and keyboard though.

They are doing their own razer products for mechwarrior with joystick/keyboard setup called the Artemis but i am guessing these will be 120 plus and out of reach for most.

I use one of these Saitek F.L.Y 5 which has been great for flightsims, has twist rudder and split throttle and also tucks away when you not using it.

Yeah seen that, not sure about the twist rudder how does that play in MWO?

I've seen the Artemis concept they put out and if that's under 300 with that centre console thing I'd be flabbergasted. Looks lovely though :)

the twist rudder would operate your torso, but i still think at the end of the day mouse and keyboard would win, unless they add in some delay in movement to allow joystick users to be equal.

Nightwing

Tenuous
I tried playing it with my twisty joystick thing, but the way the aiming works it just couldn't get close to using mouse and k/b.

Really should pick this up again, it's a lot of fun :)

"Tourmaline Desert
MechWarrior Onlines largest map yet!"

Booo! My mech already runs a little too hot, Caustic Valley is a real challenge, I can't imagine what it's like in a desert!

i'll have to give this another try at some point... but honestly, i've always prefered the single player portions of MW games to the online bits, so not sure how much i'll like it.

You said that joystick is easy to pack up, is it wireless?

Id like a joystick without cables like I have a wireless joypad

gave it another go last night.
its improved a lot over the last 6 months, imo. (although some people complain theres more bugs, but i havnt had any issues...)

There really is just something so endearing about Atlases... and about people that dont seem to understand the fact that just because you've pounded the crap out of one, it doesnt stop being a fully armed hundred tonne assault mech with an autocannon the size of a small truck :p

I just can't seem to survive well in heavy or assault mechs, I've not really tried with an Atlas yet (just ran a half dozen matches and was rubbish!) so am getting in to playing a Spider :)

assault mechs appear to be a lower skill cap - but i think they require a lot in terms of situational awareness and maximising your effectiveness. its not like a little mech where if you're in the wrong place you can just sprint to a new location. very embarrassing game last night, walked round a cliffside, turned to pound some little medium into the dust, and got shot in the arse by some bastard with gauss rifles - gutted my engine in the space of a few seconds! too late to save the littlun i'd gone for though :p

dont know what you mean by 'fixed'.... its a lot smoother and more pleasant to use than it was 6 months ago, but i'm not aware of any specific issues?

The hanger window appeared to be in windowed mode and you couldnt make it full screen, especially on a 2560x1600 it made life difficult when configurating mechs.
They said it was a bug but a very low priority one to fixed but annoyed the hell out of me during beta.
