Having heard about this I have only just looked it up when I saw Boothroyd is in the dock for using foul and abusive language at the official

I can understand why if he did.

Maybe the ref thought that the linesman was referring to the one off the bar but no one appealed.

That linesman shouldn't be let near another pitch for a long time, I wouldn't trust him with a school match.

The Lineman mucked up, but from a pure football point of view he made the right decision. Anything that stops Boothroyd's brand of lump it up field football picking up points is fine
