Advice on buying the game.

Seems that you cant buy a physical copy of the game anymore, which I'd have prefered. So im wondering about downloading it.

  1. are there any expansions needed or can you play from what you download?
  2. Im presuming that you burn the d/l file as soon as possible to a cd so that if you had to reinstal the comp you can just reinstall the game ?

I've not d/l any games before so I'm a bit in the dark.

Your 'trial' client is the same as the full game client.

You just pay your money(online), upgrade your account to full, and play. the whole process taks about 11 seonds.

The dl'able version is always the latest patch level too, so if you have to re-install it's probably faster to get the whole new 550mvb client rather than copy i tfroma CD, then re-patch it.

Dead Again, I need a Rez
All the expansions and patches are included with the client download

Everytime they add a patch they stick a new updated client on there site. So if you need to reinstall just download the latest client or you could use an older version you saved and just let the game patch itself.

Chick said it better :p

Does that mean as there is a new addon coming out it may be worth waiting till it's released, or will you have to pay an additional fee for that regardless?

oh and how much is it to buy?

Full game is still only 3 characters yes, but unfortunatly you can only train one character at a time :(

and it cost me about 8.40 if i remember for a 30 day code.

:)

Or buy time codes with in game money. What im going to do very soon. 300M for 90 day time code and that wont be hard in 0.0.

well you can have more characters... you just need more accounts too :p my advice is to set them to yearly subscriptions, and just dont look at your bank statement that month. works for me and my brother - 6 accounts between us :p

oh, and about reinstalling etc....
its a very resilient game to being copied around and such. so i just keep it on a memory stick thingy :p. play it from there if i'm only at that computer for a short time, or copy it accross if i'm gonna be there longer than a few days.

Warning: As far as I understand it any buyable copies of the game contain CD keys which basically won't work to activate anything but a 14 day trial (if that bit does work) and you still need to pay the figure you would as if you'd downloaded it.

I hope that makes sense, basically don't buy it in the shops at whatever price unless it's cheaper than downloading it, cos that's really all the shop version is now, download it online from EVE and pay yer money.

Edit: The download link as of today is : http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/EVE_Setup_4561.exe and should be on step 1 of that website Sept

I finnished my 14 day and went to subscribe, but they wanted to charge me 19.99 Euro's, and said nothing about being cheaper, per month, so I didn't Although I did enjoy the game I couldn't justify 15 quid a month.

When i bought the full game for 19.99 that included a months play , the monthly sub for me is 10.

Vic is right, there seems to be some sort of 'account setup' fee and you get a month included with that.

http://www.eve-online.com/pnp/pricing.asp lists the fee's as:

Current subsciption plans available:
Code:
Europe
	Cost/month* Total cost*
1-month-plan 14.95 14.95
3-month-plan 12.95 38.85
6-month-plan 11.95 71.70
12-month-plan 10.95 131.40
