Best PvE Battleship?

I keep hearing from people that the Minmatar Battleships are among the worst Battleships you can possibly use for PvE. So considering that I only have BS 4 and Large Turrets 4, I considered training up either Caldari or Gallente to be able to fly a comparable BS.

So my big question is, which BS would you suggest I go for that would be good for level 4 missions with limited skills? :)

And no, I am not going to fly Amarr. Ever. :p

75% of level 4 mission runners are using either Raven Navy Issues or Dominixes. 24% are working on getting one of those two ships and the remaining 1% are far too rich for their own good and are missioning in Golems, Bhaalgorns or Nightmares.

My mission Domi:

[Dominix, Mission Domi]
Federation Navy Armor Thermic Hardener
Federation Navy Armor Kinetic Hardener
Federation Navy Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane
Federation Navy Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane
Federation Navy Large Armor Repairer
Damage Control II
Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer

Drone Navigation Computer I
Federation Navy Sensor Booster, Scan Resolution
Cap Recharger II
Medium Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 800
Federation Navy 100MN Afterburner

Drone Link Augmentor I
Federation Navy 350mm Railgun, Antimatter Charge L
Federation Navy 350mm Railgun, Antimatter Charge L
Federation Navy 350mm Railgun, Antimatter Charge L
Federation Navy 350mm Railgun, Antimatter Charge L
Federation Navy 350mm Railgun, Antimatter Charge L

Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Large Auxiliary Nano Pump I

Doesn't do stellar DPS but will shred anything smaller than a BS faster than you can lock new targets and will chew through bigger stuff like structures and BSs quickly enough with a full flight of Ogre IIs.

Cap is a problem if you run the AB and the repper all the time but there's no real need to do this, the guns add about 300 DPS if you have good skills which certainly helps.

The domi on the other hand really needs good drone skills since to me its seems they should be your primary source of death and destruction.

Speaking of Drone skills, is there any significant drawback to using only large and medium drones? Right now, I only have small and medium drones in my Maelstrom and I use the small ones on Frigates and medium on Cruiser and Battleships. When I experimented a bit with medium drones, it seemed to me like small ones did a lot more damage on the faster frigates, because the medium drones seemed unable to catch them. Is that observation accurate?

Check the speed and tracking on your drones to see the difference. Like Guns, larger = slower = worse on small things.

Gotta: That's what I am doing. Large Arties and if ships get too close, I send small/medium drones after them. T2 Drones chew through most ships pretty fast.

All: That means what I really need is a ship with a huge ass drone bay that will allow me to load 5 heavy, 5 medium and 5 light drones so I always have optimal drone damage in addition to my weaponry... Hmm... I think I need to take a look at all those Battleships out there...

That would be the ishtar, Rattlesnake (oooo baby) or the Domi

I carry 5 sentries, 5 heavies, 5 mediums, 5 lights in the domi with room to spare the rattlesnake would probably field an extra 5 lights at least

its a fecking ugly big blob of a ship which you'll hate using :) but it really does the job well.

I always liked my big matari fish thing. Seemed to do the job ok if you used it properly.

I'll add my ishtar which rapes face of any domi or raven till you hit navy issue, faction geared ravens.

The gardes have a 42km optimal and 12km fall off

Drope sentries and orbit at 500M with AB. Fuck all can hit you cept very small. The cap reharge mods are an over kill incase nothing is in NOS range which is stable at 53% with rep running and no NOS.

You can fit a small remote armour repper for the drones and let them tank if your feeling cocky.

The hardenerd work as follows. T2 for their main damage and then N-type for their secondary damage. The above is for a guristas set up.

Heres my skill sheet so you get an idea of my drone, navigation and cap skills. http://eve-sheet.com/skills/Taaii

If by Minmatar Fish thingie you mean the Maelstrom, that's what I am currently using. I love the ship to bits, but I keep hearing I would be much faster and much more efficient using essentially anything else.

My highest skill sets for combat are gunnery and then drones, so I guess Caldari doesn't work for me.

I also don't mind the look of the Domi. It looks sturdy and I like the colour scheme, so I am fine with it. :) Not everything can look as impressive and awe inspiring as my Maelstrom, but I can live with that. ;)

I think I will take the Domi over the Ishtar because of the larger drone bay among other things.
