I'm looking for suggestions for kitting out a decent Caracal missile boat - all missiles and either passive or active shield tank. Anyone help with suggestions as to what to put in it?

5 heavies (or light assault if lvl 1)

1 invul
2 LSE's
10mn AB
1 sensor booster

1 BCU
1 PDS

AB on, speed tank and passive tank

I used this for Level 2s, or sommat close to it, fit meta stuff if you can't fit the T2 stuff, but this is what I would aim to get, if I needed to:

[Caracal, 1]
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II

10MN Afterburner II
Invulnerability Field II
Medium Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II

Assault Missile Launcher II, Sabretooth Light Missile
Assault Missile Launcher II, Sabretooth Light Missile
Assault Missile Launcher II, Sabretooth Light Missile
Assault Missile Launcher II, Sabretooth Light Missile
Assault Missile Launcher II, Sabretooth Light Missile

Upgrade one or more of the AMLs to heavies as the mission dictates, but this should sort out 99% of frigate swarms

In the Kestrel I'm finding I swap missiles round alot for various factions, drone types etc. So are my days of a hold full of Flamebursts, Pirahnas and sabretooths over then?

Naw, you use the same missiles in the assault launchers, they are just bigger, because they fire faster, so you can't really fit them on a frigate, but on a cruiser, that is equipped with enough power and cpu to fit heavies, they work perfectly to deal with frigates, as heavies are aimed at cruiser vs cruiser fighting.

all depends on what type of foes you are facing in the mission.

You'll still be swapping them round, but it'll be widowmakers, Scourge and Thunder(something).

I found widowmakers the best for most things though, but it depends where you are and what faction you're fighting mostly I guess.

EFT - Eve fitting tool. you can add your api key and it will give you stats on your build etc.

Often what i do is this:

Pick a ship i want to fly in evemon, view it and select the loadout i want to fly with (normally i go for a mission specific with high positive feedback). Then i add skills if i need to.

You cna then plug all that into EFT and see how it would fly for you.You get and idea of your cap stability, damage output etc etc

It's also where those ship builds we post come from. You can build your ship in the EFT, and then there is an option to copy it and you can simply paste it into the message board and ask feedback instead of typing all that up again. :) It is a great tool to give you an overview over how much damage your build does and how long it lasts.

Just don't take the stats from the EFT as the be all and end all, because while the figures may look great, it may still be a bad fit in practice. But it is really great at giving you a good indication at how your build works for you.
