Dead Alan (didnt want to spoil the graveyard thread)

Hmmm, sorry if you don't think I donate enough to clan members, Jane, but I also have three house mates and a couple of other friends who i also equip, and offer whatever i have spare to whoever i can find who can use them. The only ites that could possibly be dupes are the Gerkes, and the dual leech ring. All the others, I either found, or got of people I trust 100%, such as clan members, or housemates.

If someone's selling me an item that for all I know is legit, and they're asking a reasonable price for them, there's nothing I can do if they're actual dupes. I don't do Pindleskin runs, or many Baal runs, so I'm not going to find a windforce or a grandfather. Therefore I have to trade things like skulders/arreats/war travellers I find to get the highest level items. Some people, like alan, are happy to play characters with cheap items, and fair respect to them, but for me, a lot of the fun of Diablo 2 is the actual items, and the trading. If we're not allowed to trade, half the fun goes out of the game for me. If i pay a lot for a traded items, and then get them deleted (as, unfortunatley, I have on several occasions), that's the risk I take. I accept that, and still trade, as that is, for me, the main point of the game.

Anyway, if the remaining diablo 2 players decide that they don't want to play with characters with traded items, then fair enough, and I'll probably make a couple of "clean" characters to play with them, for the chat and so forth. However, my main characters will still play in open games (as it's difficult to level in clan games), and trade with non-clan people (as i don't trade with clan members, I donate).

personally i wouldnt trade for something i knew was illegal,

not from any great morals or pricipal but simply because its likely to disapear..

when i have gone trading ive always looked for lower end items (ie vamp gazes far from perfect etc) to ensure they wouldnt be duped..

From almost day 1 tho, having, using, trading for duped items wasnt allowed in CUK. When we formed we were all running around with Combo swords (I had kSOH+B), staffs with 255 charges of Apoc and Demonspike coat on a ring, in fact i remember the very first day was spent duping each others items to make the best chars..but we quickly realised if we were going to play the game we may as well play it proper, as far as i know despite the days of them Charters and such nonsense them rules are still in place. The line is blurred a bit in D2x as items are not so blatent (such as the demonspike coat ring).

The thing is tho i cannot catagorically say ive never owned a duped item in d2x. Although the vast majority of items ive had are from clan members, a few from myself, a few have also been trades which i cant vouch for. The only way for us to be 100% clean would be to outlaw open trading, which would be a shame as its part of the game. The argument would be however that the trade part of the game has been killed by the dupers and their customers.

hopefully this will all be academic for those of us who choose to play the game proper in v1.1 and make ladder chars, im not making because i think i have a chance at the ladder but because we will have a clean economy, with nice new items and runewords..

Blues will be worth Iding again, we will keeping things we laff at now to help each other out and we will be pretty much 100% sure we are all clean.....

...accept for emmon as hes a filthy little gibbon

To be honest I think Diablo2 without the trading would be a mere shadow of what it is capable of. Dupes can be irrating if they dissapear, but if you paid a 'correct' price for them and have no reason to know it is a dupe, then for all intents and purposes it is a real item and in no way cheating, and doesn't decrease the fun or playability of the game. (except when it dissapears :p )
I have a suspision my oculus is duped cos its named but i payed 2 sojs for it and use it only for mf runs so i hope it wont dissapear :p

In Diablo it was easy enough to say totally clean clan char, do not ever accept 'presents' from a non-clan char. The game wasnt that big and the items were no where near as diverse.

As has been said trading is a much bigger part of the game.We all play realm to allegedly keep away from the hacks etc.We all know that its not perfect but its better than playing open Bnet.Blizzard might not get the dupes right away but it seems to get them in the end.

I dont think its fair for me to be draconian and say 'Thou shalt not trade' and on the same token its not realistic for me to think that you wont ever pick up a duped item.Use your head and try your best to avoid buying suspect goods. They will just dissapear on you at an inconvenient point.

As Mark said, if you want a clean conscience start a new char with the new patch.

ClanUK IS anti hack, anti-cheat...

However when trading, which is part of the game it is very difficult not to get caught out.

Using the "If I paid a fair price it's ok" arguement is fine as far as it goes. But paying a Fair price and knowing 99.9% that the item is hacked is not.

Remember this is HC...Very few v1.08 items that are 'not' hacked no longer exist. Irrespective if they don't disappear 'In game'.

Looking at the 'Fair Price' arguement...what is a fair price for the Original Duel-Leach Ring....Certainly not what is currently classed as a 'Fair' Price for the Hacked item.

I would argue the following that anyone who wears v1.08 items has hacked equipment..Anyone who has duel leach rings has hacked equipment.

I have nothing against people doing this...If they want to...What I am against is people using the ClanUK logo doing it. Notice I don't say ClanUK people doing it, because if CUK people want to play hacked characters then fine...But please don't join ClanUK games with those characters, don't use the CUK tag on those characters and please don't bring in uber items and offer them to ClanUK people that have been found using hacked equipment.

No-one can enforce the above...It is all based on trust and respect.

If you really want to trade..then I would suggets 'alway' insist on UnId equipment. If you can't get it UnID...then don't trade...after all trading for Hacks isn't very good.

Un-Id'd equipment can be duped too although its painfully obvious that dual lech rings and 1.08 items on hc are duped...
But where do you draw the line? Is not rushing a character cheating too? what about tweaking a low level cfharacter with items found on another character? Did Blizzard originally want people doing this, and muling etc?
Maybe wo sohuld refure to play with someone who has been rushed to the ancients at lvl 20..... or maybe not.

Anything you can do within the game such as twinking new characters or power leveling new characters isn't an issue. Duping items or knowingly using duped items in ClanUK games is out of order.

"personally i wouldnt trade for something i knew was illegal"

Of course, I don't think anyone here would, myself included. If not for the fact that I'm opposed to it morally, but for the reason that I'm giving my, legit, non-deletable items away to a cheater, and my item is likely to be deleted.

The only exception to this is, I accept, that Grandfather. That was stupid, and I should've realised it was a dupe straight away. However, I'd just been PKed, lost my Trang Oul set (which I know was 100% legit), and was rather drunk. Ah well, you only make that mistake once, and I wont be trading in anymore named items.

As I've said - the only two items there that could possibly be dupes are Gerkes and the dual leech rings. The rest I am sure are legit. Stealskull? Found it myself. Chanceguards? Found them myself. Arreats Face? Found it myself, as Mark can vouch for (hell, some muppet put a skull in it ;) ). Made my sword and my two armours, got the warcry charm and the 17% ali off mark, made the other ali myself with jewels I found. Found the catseye about 20 mins before I died, crafted amulet I got off a reputable source.

The dual leech ring, after talking to several of my friends, and asking around in the trading channel, seems likely to be a dupe. I haven't found anyone who recognises those exact stats, so don't know 100%, but does seem likely. However, I didn't know this at the time. In hindsight, I wouldn't have traded for it, and wont be trading for dual leech rings in the future.

The Gerkes, on the other hand, I've had a long time (3? 4 months?). I'm not sure exactly when 1.09 came out, but it seems quite possible that someone would hoard an item a couple of months until it's even more valuable and then trade it. Hell, I've used in at least 2 months of open games - seems quite safe to me. For comparison, the GF was deleted within an hour of my joining open games.

Anyway, to sum it up, I *hate* dupe and dupers. I've lost hours and hours of gameplay due to these script kiddies, and, tbh, I'm hurt by these accusations that I knowingly and willingly trade in dupes. Oh yes, and that I'm a tight fisted bastard who never gives people anything. I'm sorry, but I could have easily bought 2 grandfathers with the items I've given away, and you're begrudging me finally buying something nice for my barb, Jane?

Yours, feeling rather put upon, R

My comment wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, it's a general statement in response to Clusters question.

Just to clear that up.

Everyone else hates you though, because you smell and your confused sexuality is disturbing. :D

Twinking is definitely allowed (although the next patch stops it for ladder folk) - Blizzard even considered the idea of 'clan warehouses' - i.e. pooled items, at one point. Shame it never happened.

Tribal Matriarch dude
Patch 1.09 was released on 21/05/2001

nuf sadi about 1.08 stuff, as to the others... sorry but when there are clan members running around without the gear to survive, then I would give up any trade to provide.

Look this is just me, I am now back on CD2 where I am playing as meant, not even muleing, no twinking, no trading, if I don't find it I dont have it, and I stay back where I can kill monsters instead of rushing to where I cannot.

Calm down Rorshach.*hugs* you made a mistake no point slamming your privates in a door over it.You have learned and you wont do it again, fine :)
I cant quite claim to be totally self-sufficient as Rowan is doing as folk have forced the odd present on me now and then.I do prefer just to deal with what I find and as Rowan says, there is no rush to get to the end of the game. You have all killed Baal once, you know what happens. If you cant kill stuff do an easier bit :D

pah you wimmin just dont get it...

The side of D2x that appeals to (most) lads is the same thing that makes us...

Put bigger exhausts and air filters on 1.1 litre vaxhaull novas
Fit a 400 stereo to a 200 car
Buy a set of speakers for ya room loud enough for wembley even tho your mum would never let you have it that loud
Buy a 400 video card for a pc even tho you only play settlers 2
Throw away a perfectly good phone and spend 350 quid on a new one just because its no longer the current model.
Spend 100 quid on a pair of running shoes even tho you never get your fat bum on the sofa 99% of the time.
Buy a pair of Addidas Predator football boots for 120 quid even tho your a centre half and had never even had a shot on goal.

we just like to twiddle with things and make em as good as they can be...
and getting the best items is an extension of that

Boys rule..

come on lads.. 3 and in, no girls, baggsy not in goal....

I agree, I will consider the game complete when and only when I have a character with the best possible setup I can get my mitts on and get him/her/it/ up to lvl 99 :)
Naturally this will take a while cos I keep dishing out stuff I find changing my mind about what character I want and makeing new ones when Im bored of cows...
At the moment it looks like itsw either gonna be my sc Pala or Amazon, depending on what good weapon I can get.
Im also playing my hc barb atm just for the fun of it, ill never get uber items on hc, too dangerous :/
