right after listening to people doing this i fancy trying my hand.

what do i need? right now ican flyand use probes (astrometrics ii currently) on zedanya. what else?

Currently i have Cov ops IV, Astrometric Acquisition 3, Astrometric Pinpointing 3, Astrometric Rangefinding 4, Astrometrics 4 And a Sisters Probe Launcher, i still struggle to pinpoint some of the higher end Grav/Magnometric Sites, but find wormholes dead easy

You can probe in any non covert ops based ship but dont receive is ship benefeits it gives (10% probe strength per level).

What you want :

Covert ops IV ( if you plan to use a covert ops ship)

Astrometrics IV
Astrometric Aquisition III
Astrometric Pinpointing IV
Astrometric Rangefinding IV
Survery III

This is ideal for what you need. You can go higher for deep space survery probes which are very handy but not needed.

The video is ideal to start with but as you get faster and more confident, you can skip certain steps such as how he deactivates probes. It gets to the point where you drop 4 probes and just use SHIFT to move and increase/decrease its radius and move them. You use the directional scanner to find roughly where they are and can just dump you probes there. Im at the point where i can scan down a ship such as a interceptor or a Dictor in under 30 seconds using directional scanner and under 1 minute if they aren't in range of that.

On the other hand, I found that video a bit confusing. When you load in to the character select screen and there is a band on your left with news items. Scroll down and watch the scanning tutorial on there - its excellent and had me scanning stuff with no problems after I nearly gave up.
