Little story for the faithful

I thought it was sad that no one at all posted at all yesterday on the D2 forums.....end of an era and all that..

but it reminded me of something that I saw in MVC (music/dvd/games shop) t'other week..

I think it was actually when I was in there buying Dungeon Seige (ptoo!), 3 kids around 8-10 yrs old came in a started looking at the PC games (which i found odd as they usually head for the GayStation2 or GamePube section), one of them grabs D2X and holds it above his head... it went summink like this after that...

kid 1. "yes theyve got"
kid 2. "cool.. im gonna be an assasinator"
kid 3. "im going be a bear"
kid 1. "doesnt matter, my pal-ar-din will kick then both in"
kid 3. "well ive got all rare clothes, and ive killed Diablo"
kid 2. "oh look theres a picture of a Amozon"
kid 1. "they are cool, ive got megashot arrow on mine"

...now at this point i was going to interject and explain to these budding D2xers that they really would need to consider guided arrow for their zon builds in the expansion pack to cope with the PIs and how a hybrid of the furyzon and bowazon is a very popular build, a good runner, mfer and fast leveller, but thought better of it...

there maybe few of us of D1,D2 players still mooching around in Harrogath but maybe the next gen of Chargeadins, WW barbs and Zoo keepers aint far behing us.... or maybe not...

However If (or when i should say) D2/D2x is released on budget.........

lol that's funny :)

I loaded D1 up by accident last weekend... played my little sorc for a bit and thought: those were the days my friend...

D1 still roxors in one or the other way ... not like D2 - I never got acutally really warm with it... it's too much...

I would have wished it the way Dungeon Siege is now... that would have been classic - I was at a LAN last weekend - played it over 40 hours - that was absolutely ace!

Never got into D2 the same way as D1. Found it too similar to the original...

Completely lost interest in DS about two days into the single player campaign. It lacks all the things that makes Diablo II so compelling to play, and I'm not fond of sitting there watching the game being played for me by so-often goofy AI.

Speaking of which, back to DII for me :)

Yay, once more unto the brink, my friend.

Although a few games have distracted me for a while, they've all lacked something.

Of course, there are fps'ers that are much better for competetive play, single player games with a better plot, and games with more depth (usually unneccesarily complex), or better graphics, but none of them really have the gameplay of D2x. Only one game has the ability to drag me away from D2 for an extended period of time, but I wont go into that *mutters*

OK, running people, and power leeling is quite extreme, but on hardcore, it actually makes the game more playable. Although you can get up to level 60 odd in 3 days heavy playing if you're good, or hae good friends helping you, that's when the fun really starts.

In my opinion, the one main thing they would make an excellent game even better would be to have the equivalent of the Chaos Sanctuary at a higher level than the Cow Leel. Back in D2 classic, that was great fun - you had to have a well balanced team to survive there, it encouraged true teamwork, not just a bunch of furyzons ;)

Anyway, rant over. I'm still enjoying the game a lot, so cant see myself changing games for a while. Maybe when Neverwinter Nights comes out, we'll see... :)

thing is, diablo1 was the best.... (for its time) i never ever played a game so much, (just ask cuth :)) i remember my phone bill hitting 600/month or something like that.... might of been a quater... and thats just on internet..... not flat rate then *grin*

the phone bill was proportional to my presence at home *giggle*

anyways, the thing is, once you get into diablo2, diablo1 isn't so appealing anymore, yeh its a good game, but it'll never hold you again like it did. Diablo2 was never as good, i forced myself into playing it, i bought D2 the day it came back, got bored of it within a month.... only started again about 4-5 month's ago.... forced myself, and now i love it *grin*

thought Dungeon siege, good idea.... but its like most games now, (ESPECIALLY BLACK AND WHITE), they lose their interactivity... you now see the computer hitting things for you.... you "automatically" attack back... well you could just sit by a spawn zone for creatures, and leave your comp on, the creature will spawn, you hit back, exp for you, repeat.....

However theres a few good Elite clones due out that i'm very interested in.... Eve is one, the other i can't remember the name of... gonna get a look at them, should be really great :D

Diablo2 still is a great game, DAoC and DS were big dissapointments for me :(
ah well, i'll break out the diablo2 for 1.10, for now i'm taking a break :D

Thing is with dungeon siege is because id played D2 so much before hand I wasnt really bothered about the storyline I just concentrated on getting Uber. Online I would definately play it all ther way through in parties of 5-8 going through all the quests etc but my modem lets me down there.

I played D2 so much now that its not about the powerplaying to do most damage, and fitting into stereotyped characters like werewolf druid.. they are all the same with max etc etc.

Like coming up and trying odd recipes to make them, and theres the freedom to do this, with a very wide range of combination including uniques... DS imo doesnt have this, so its less of a "role" playing game ( But it does look absolutely ace ) :)

Yup and when patch 1.10 comes out... so will I... Of town that is :)

I used to love D1 too.... But the exp pack for it was crap tbh. That was the problem. D2 lost some of the basic style of D1, in the attempt to balance things. eg. char classes SO different, not being able to clear whole rooms with chain lightening (wasent that just the best though, porting in, casting about 25 chainlightenings, seeing everything except the immunes die, porting out and coming back with fireball? whatever class you were, you could still do it to some extent...) And warriors too.... Being totally surrounded, by like 50 enemies, and just fighting youre way through em. No running. No mercs to distract them. Just hacking your way out, getting through an entire inv of heals at the same time.... ahh....those were the days.... We should have a D1 night sometime, i think i still have my old char saved....

Isn't it though? Ah yes young boys with legions of undead? Quick knock about in the catacombs? Wasn't it? Slipping Wirt a few gold for a little something for the weekend, telling him that he'd be in trouble if he ever told his old mum. Isn't it though?
