New char, what to do

I'll be starting my new char tonight, how does it all work now, what should I but points into first. I'm pretty sure going to go Minimitar from what I've read up on, and more importantly I like the look of the Minimitar ships the most (and I know anyone can fly any type, but starting out it's important and I'm not sure I'd want to fly any other stinky races ships)

Do the expanded tutorial / starter mission. itll net you some decent cash, walk you through some of the basics again, get you some new frigates without having to pay for them.

Also follow the goonswarm link posted elsewhere today. Theres some great advice on newbie ship, but you probably want to get upto cruisers and battlecruisers asap, with associated tank skills and weapon skills....

I was going to focus on faster learning stuff to start the ball rolling abit until I crack and go for bigger guns instead :)

I'm thinking though more in when you actually first start, name the character and then last time I played there was points to spend in various places on various things, is it the same still, or all different now

And WoW while it does also run natively on the Mac I've played it enough times to not want to go through exactly the same bits over and over again when starting out. In however long since I last played nothing really seems to have changed re starting areas/classes/etc/etc unless you're approaching higher levels

different. Been a while since i built a new character.... but last time i dont remember doing anything with skill selections during build. Definately do the noob storyline. Its 50 minssions long and is fairly interesting.

Join the CUK channel as well.... :)

....in the chat interface click the "speech bubble" in the top right corner. Bash in CUK as the channel to join and ClanUK as the P/w.

If you remember the basics from last time you played I can recommend doing the career tutorials (listed as career agents at the bottom of the help tab). They take you through a string of missions covering Military, Industry, Business etc. and equipe you with a good frigate, decent basic equipment and assorted bits and pieces as well as having a half way decent story line to help you feel like you're doing something for a reason (try not to buy much if you do these missions as you get most of your T1 basics kit given to you as part of the missions).

I'm just finishing off those missions now and then onto the Epic Arc "sisters" storyline which I was introduced to in one of the career missions.

I did a lot of training in learning skills first, I then took a look at the certificates as they give you a list of skills needed to achieve each certificate. The certificates don't give you anything in and of themselves, they do however put some structure around your skill learning.

I'm a week in and still spend a good amount of time confused, but the tutorials and help from people here, especially Req, Tai and Dara has given me enough confidence to be dangerous, although mainly to myself.

As soon as I finish the arc and tutorials I'm off to get the poo shot out of me in T1 PvP, it seems the way to learn is to try stuff, get Pwned and learn from your mistakes which frankly sounds fun :)

I'll be posting my first player PvP victory here with flashing lights and a fanfare at some point ;)

Hope that helps

I thought I'd fire this up again and have a go but they've taken antialiasing out now and it looks like a bag of shite.

It's a shame cos it used to be an excellent game, visually. I've tried all the nVidia control panel and nHancer fixes but none of them work :(

I'm not sure, I joined the 14 day trial and downloaded it from their website.

I can't see anything in the graphic settings to change from a lo-res to hi-res client.

But it's specifically the AA which I want, I can still get 1920x1200 resolution, just with big square edges on things...

/edit
Just found this on the website:

The game engine may be switched from one to another

On the EVE launching screen, by pressing the "Settings" button, then ticking the "Premium Graphic Content upgrade enabled" in the "Display and graphics" tab.

but I don't have that tickbox :(
