I like it better than D2 you can change the way you play in this D2 you were stuck with points in a skill

Cull, as you probably know, I was concerned by the direction Diablo III had taken after the launch weekend. I think it's very telling that Blizzard North (who are responsible for all of the other Diablos, including LOD) didn't have a hand in its creation. It's also sad that a decision was made to build the game around the RMAH, but from a business perspective it's very understandable. Anyway, what I meant to say, is that Torchlight 2 (made by the Blizzard North team) is shaping up to be excellent. It'll be out in September, and in many ways is the spiritual successor to Diablo II. You can pre-order for 14.99, so I'd check it out if I were you...

I didn't think Torchlight I was particularly good either, but Torchlight II appears to answer most fan concerns with the first instalment...

To be honest i wish i could skip the whole "playing the game" thing and just do endless "teleport to Baal, faceroll, reset" all night.
that was loads of fun. And leveling? that's boring. I would much rather stand at a stone while someone levels for me. that too, was amazing fun.

on a more serious note, I've extensively beta'd both Path of Exile and Torchlight 2 and am remarkably less impressed with them post D3 than pre. The lack of visceral feedback makes them feel paperthin, no matter what 'graphics/atmosphere'.

Path of Exile is probably the closest to a dated snorefest... I mean Diablo 2 if you miss it that badly.

I brought a new shiny PC to play Diablo III on and yeah it's a massive letdown....

Well at least Borderlands 2 comes out next month.

Interesting that you don't rate Torchlight 2. Everything I have seen has left me quite excited about it. What are your main criticisms? (I don't have an agenda... I just want a decent loot game I can play with my mates!)

the main thing is the lack of feeling. you zip about pressing buttons, but don't get that whole "i just hit something with an axe" feeling that you do in D3. there is no judder&shake form the camera, there's very little, if any feed back at all. it's a very "at arms length cutesy cutesy la la." Sounds, graphics and such like add to the feeling of running around slapping things with celery rather than getting blood all over your elbows.

Torchlight got away with it as there wasn't anything marketable at the time, even TQ had faded to many, and it's budget/surprise factor really helped. I fear for this iteration though, as so far it doesn't really feel "sequel". they have added 1 class, left most mechanics as is, and updated the graphics a bit.

Then again, that's what many, it seems, wanted blizzard to do with D3.

(nb: You can still get hold of a working copy of the beta from your favourite torrent site if you want to try it out yourself, but it's just not that interesting)

It's possible they have delayed it so massively (it was supposed to be out in June) to add this king of thing, but I am not convinced. It's just going to be a "cheap cartoony update to Torchlight."

ps. i could probably loan my PoE (beta) account if anyone is bi-Curious ?
