Salvaging

Well I started on combat training last night in a station which appears to be built to help train anyone in anything (from the mission people there), which is nice. And Emmon suggested I did the mini-class in the help menu and hey presto you get some skills books for just reading the text.

Hacking I'm unconvinced by, but salvaging sounded quite useful given that I keep blowing up what seems to be about 6 to 8 ships which never have loot, and I'm left wondering if I should training in that now (only take around 9 hours and then salvage everything I blow up for extra cash ?

Or is salvaging a useful skill to have down the line when you can have one ship purely to salvage, which I keep reading about as what people seem to do

Salaving nets you items from the wreck itself, these sell for between 100's and 100,000's of isk per item.

At level iv missions im neeting between 10 - 20mil in salavage and loot. so definately worth it.

i would add check Evemon for what you need to train to get salvaging.. its probably not worht bothering with though until your running level 3+ missions id think as the best salavage comes from the Biggers ships.

Salvaging will massively increase the money you get from missions. For low level missions where you don't face too many NPCs you might as well salvage as you go but for high level ones where there might be dozens of enemies, you'll probably want a dedicated salvage ship to follow in the wake of your main mission boat.

The best way to sell salvage is to buy a Giant Secure Container and throw all the salvage that you pick up into that. When you have a decent amount of an item (a few hundred) sell that stack. The people who buy salvage don't want to buy it in small amounts so you can get a better price for it if you are selling it in bulk.

It's only 9 hours worth of training to get it, so it's not too bad, but that just gets me salvaging 1

Salvaging is w1n.

I used to have a l33t salvaging destroyer :)

Or even better and can afford it ditch the dessie and buy a battlecruiser like a hurricane or Harbringer. So much more space for those Lvl4 Angels Extravagansa missions and the like, as you often run out of space when you loot a couple of larger launchers and guns etc. Dessies are good for lvl 2 and 3 and some lvl 4 salavaging.

IIRC With the funds from Salvaging "religously" all wrecks / missions, you can effectively fund a second account via GTC's, train it up too salvage and just dual-box with it following yo arround. Takes a bit of getting used too, but it's a ridiculously fast way of making cash.

As for salvaging, a Destroyer is your best bet. Put Expanded cargo's in the lows, AB / Cap Rechargers in the mids and a split of 3/5 Tractors / Salvage units.

Salvaging isnt worth it unless you can run a second account. At level 4's, your better off blitzing missions (dont even bother looting) unless you have a dedicated second account. You make more money just rushing level 4's

Hmm, you know, I might have upgraded to a hurricane for salvaging before I quit.... I definitely had a mini star destroyer at the same time as my battleship :)

yeah have a go. like you i used a catalysm as a salvager but especially early on with lvl4s i had to make 2 or 3 trips back and forth. With a Battlecruiser that problem is solved especially when a mission has lots of loots within 3 or 4 pockets.

Cargo extensions II with a good afterburner i think my Harbringer something like 1500+ cargo space which is ideal and not to slow either.

id love to do this but just dont play enough to warrant it.

If i did though id run my other account :)

I have only one computer and I am unwilling to get a second dedicated salvage char. As such, I trained up Salvaging to 3, got myself a salvage boat (Gallente Destroyer) and I tend to earn a lot of money that way. :)

Dead Again, I need a Rez
I used to have a Dominix fitted with tractors and salvagers plus repairers on my second account while i did lvl 4 missions in my Raven

Destroyers are good too as you can tractor 4 wrecks and salvage then at the same time while travelling to new wrecks
