campaign storyline - bit meh. but thats not HotS's fault, its WoL's fault for what it did to the zerg (kerrigan's not QBotU anymore for no obvious reason! the overmind was a hero! evil Xel'naga!) That said, i really like the ideas behind In Utter Darkness, i just wish they'd done all the story leading up to it better... minor changes would have made it much more believable for me - rather than retconning the overmind into a hero, just make it that we need to cure Kerrigan so that we can convince her to use the swarm against the Hybrids. same effect, without having to completely retroactively change the nature of the zerg from the original game.
Campaign Missions - too much timed objective stuff. but i think its deliberate - the Zerg are meant to be an agressive swarm, you don't get that if you're allowed to just sit back and build up. by having everything timed you're forced to act more like a swarm that doesnt really care what happens to its individual members.
Campaign RPG elements - loved it. being able to choose actives and passives to suit how you play kerrigan was excellent.
