I want to give this at least the benefit of the Trial period as it is a game I have never tried. I'm going to have comparatively minimal time to invest in it, and want to achieve as much as possible in that time. Does anyone have up-to-date links for quickstarts or general tips?
First off, get someone who plays to send you a buddy invite, that will get you a 3 week trial rather than the standard 2 week one from the Eve site.
If you want to keep playing then get the $10 Steam deal and apply it to your trial account to turn it into a real account. That will get you two months of subs for less than the normal cost of one. Also, you get your game time in the form of ingame items that you can either use yourself or sell ingame for ingame cash.
It doesn't matter what choices you make in character creation except for RP/aesthetic purposes. Your stats can be remapped twice and any skills you start with are pretty trivial to replace if you decide that you'd rather fly a different race's ships.
There will be a lot you don't understand or that doesn't make sense, get in the CUK channel (password is ClanUK) and ask all your dumb questions in there. Also do the tutorials.
