Virginmedia and Setanta

Interesting to see that XL package owners (old and new) will get 6 channels from Setanta Sports included free as of today.

Setanta Sports 1, Setanta Sports 2, Setanta Golf, Racing UK, Celtic TV and Rangers TV

Not too shabby really for a freebie, then again they must have bought something with the money from the Sky One fund.

Probably because it wouldn't be seen as something free by as many people then and Virgin are still trying to recover from Sky One going. They need to be able to say "Look what we offer" instead of "Look what you can get with your Sky Sports".

Personally if I was on the M Package and it was a choice of upgrading to XL to get what is an 8 per month package or paying 20+ per month for Sky Sports I'd still go for the Sky Sports as I gain more of the sport I watch.

But as I am already on XL, I'm not going to complain.

I would say that they have had to make less of a recovery than people would think from losing Sky One. I know a good few people on virgin media and not one that I have spoken to was bothered about losing that particular channel.

I know a good few that were, but they were 24 fans and it went pop mid season, if you have no way to obtain them then you are left high and dry.

No matter how Virgin played it at the time, no matter what crap they put on Virgin Central, they still lost a pretty big channel.

I'm really not bothered about losing Sky One.

Liverpool launch their own TV channel in September, which is part of the Setanta setup. 30 hours a week of newly produced content, reserve matches, all regular matches (not live).

Not sure if it will be part of Virgins free offer.
