My point was you have a big rant at how bad the sports journalism and commentory is then to prove this you posted a fact - only you slightly fudged the fact (golden gloves isn't awarded to the best keeper!)
Bit like Gary Glitter saying he's not a paedophile before breaking into a cover of 'I kissed a girl (and i liked it)'.
Bit of a difference what is propagated as truth in the tabloids to what I said. An example is the 'renowned' website
http://www.transferleague.co.uk/
I've seen that website quoted all over the tabloids - on the front page it lists all teams transfers "since Rafa took over" and compares it to the other teams. It so far off I spent some time looking at it.
The first thing I noticed was that they had Nando listed as costing 26.5mill when he was 20mill. In a footnote they quote their source -
a link to an unsubstantiated rumor in a newspaper that was published four days before we sign him.
They go on to list Cisse as a Rafa buy at 14mill, but that was tied up before Rafa got here.
They make a series of other mistakes, including, but not limited to :
Diarra we got 2mill for (they don't even list him)
Nunez we got 2mill for (they list no fee)
Paletta we got 1.2mill (they list no fee)
Owen we got 8.5 mill (they list 8mill)
Kirkland we got 3.5mill (they list 3mill)
Kromkampf we got 1.75mil (they list 1.5mill)
Gonzalez we bought for 1.5mill (they reckon we paid 4.5mill)
There are numerous other mistakes and they all add up. In short,
their inaccuracies make Rafas net spend to be 42% more than it actually is and this bollocks is enforced in all the tabloids.
The list is kind to Ferguson. I only took a quick glance but saw :
They list Nani and Anderson at 27mill when they were over 35mill
They list his 2 young recent recruits at 5mill a piece when they were 17mill
He lists an incoming transfer fee of 12mill for Mikel, with no outgoing fee
Rafas net spend is 16mill a year and he has had to replace the entire team and we have the best first eleven in 20 years. That doesn't even take into account how the finance available to him is further limited to massively less in wages than the other top four. He deserves credit but all he gets is abuse based on tabloid myth.
Banter and abuse between rival fans is fun and part of the game, but its a sad state of affairs when the tabloids can get away with spouting endless rubbish. I'm not just talking about what gets aimed at Rafa; the whole of sports journalism and TV punditry is so poor in this country its beyond belief. The other leading sports nations get excellent coverage and tactical analysis. We get Richard Keys, Andy Gray and Brian Woolnough.
