IMPORTANT NOTICE: YOUR BTOPENWORLD ACCOUNT IS IN BREACH OF OUR TERMS &
CONDITIONS

Dear Customer,

As part of our ongoing service improvements, we regularly review usage
levels on our network.

YOUR ACCOUNT USAGE
In a recent review, we noticed that your account has been connected for long
periods of time - typically 12 hours or more in a day. Your computer may
also be automatically redialling to connect to your account in your absence.

Unfortunately, this type of usage breaches paragraph 10.3 of our Terms &
Conditions. To review these, please go to
http://www.btopenworld.com/helpnb/terms

We are sorry to say that if your account continues to be used in this way,
we reserve the right to terminate your account without further notice.

USAGE TIPS
This email is to let you know about the breach and ask you to change your
usage. We want to keep you as a customer and would like to help you avoid
having idle open connections to the internet. So here are some useful tips,
which should help you use the internet more effectively. We suggest you:
* review how often you check for email
* make sure you don't leave software running which is likely to keep your
internet connection live unnecessarily (e.g. instant messaging software)
* don't set your email software to auto redial at regular intervals
* don't use other dialler 'keep alive' applications

CONSIDER PASSWORD CHANGE
It may be that your account is being used by people other than yourself. If
you think this could be the case we strongly recommend that you change your
password. To do this, please go to
http://www.btopenworld.com/mybtopenworld

CONSIDER 'ALWAYS ON' HIGH SPEED BROADBAND
If you'd like access to an 'always on' internet connection, you may wish to
consider upgrading to high speed BTopenworld Broadband Plug & Go. This may
better suit your needs. It's up to ten times faster than a standard modem
and uses your existing BT line without affecting your voice calls. Once set
up, there are no extra charges above the monthly rental fee. To find out
more, and check if it's available in your area, please go to
http://www.btopenworld.com/broadband

PLEASE CHECK YOUR BTOPENWORLD EMAIL
Please note that all messages to you about this issue will be sent to this
email address, the primary email address for your BTopenworld account.
Please make sure you check this email account for updates.

HELP
If you have any questions about the above, please contact the BTopenworld
team at
http://www.btopenworld.com/helpnb. Please quote reference ATW062002 when
replying.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

so 10.3 is...
10.3 If you are a user of a service other than pay as you go, you should be aware that these services are not intended to be "always on" services during unmetered access periods. Accordingly, we can suspend or terminate your access to the service as explained in paragraphs 14 and 15 if we think that:

(i) your internet connection is online for 12 or more hours of unmetered access in any 24 hour period; or

(ii) your computer is automatically redialling your internet connection during unmetered access periods.

But how is is it 12 hours of "unmetered" access? Or auto-dialling during "unmetered" acess periods? Do you get metered in certain parts of the day?

You could always bin them and get Freeserve Anytime instead.

12.99 a month, and they don't complain if you're on 24/7.

freeze, i haven't checked my email so i dunno if i have that one, cos i'm on way more than 12 hours a day, i'm looking at about 18-20 a day.... when they say unmetered i think they mean its online but ur afk or something... also i have this feeling they send this email out to people who are online alot but can have broadband in their area... my area can't have broadband, BTinternet just changed my dialup number to the "nasty" line, where all the regularly overly online users are, so it takes me about 5 attempts at least to connect.... so far they haven't complained so much anymore... watch out though, bt are *******s, they took my friend to court about unpaid phone bills to a phone line he didn't even own.... he won, considering the line they were trying to charge him on didn't exist in his house, but he kinda lost having to pay out legal fee's and crap... i hate BT :)

"unmetred" means that they are not charging by the minute that you are on NOT that they have no record of you being on at all!
I'm afraid that this is the way that dial up is heading, they are looking to "push" everyone onto "broadband Britain" so as not to disappoint Tony. Unfortunately they don't really want to lay new lines all over the place, and if they don't a LOT of people will not be able to go broadband, due to sheer geography. My exchange deals with a huge area, including 2 large towns, with ADSL and RADSL still one town is almost all unable to get ADSL because of distance.
But Tony wants...Tony gets... so they came up with the satellite ADSL package, this means that it is YOUR fault that you don't have broadband, not theirs, YOU are the one who won't pay.

To defend BT a little, the politicians gave them a target, but no cash to achieve it, this would have be fair enough IF it was still a public company, but it isnt.

Oh Eddy I have been told to back the call for Daemon (maybe spelt wrong:p) who use a separate backbone to BT and therefore you dont have the same restrictions.(dont know how good they are myself Im just tellin ya what I was told ttell ya). It cannot hurt to give them a try luv.

Hope you get sorted
