Ta dara, will try and get on later, any recommendations on where to start/what race, think ill start off ratting then get into pvp. Tried mining before and did enjoy it but it was pretty dull on my own and missions i think be more exciting with my odd play times

Personally, I am a huge fan of both Gallente (because I think the ships are pretty) and the Minmatar (Peace through superior firepower - my thing exactly) because they are the only races I can identify with, though Caldari are close, too.

If you start over, I suggest finding out how you prefer to play (I prefer shield tanking over armour tanking, as I get nervous when my shields are gone). I for one also like fewer big hits and dislike many small hits, which is why I picked Artillery for most of my ships. All races can learn to fly the ships of all other races, so the differences are cosmetic and you can switch ships easily within 3 days or so and be as skilled in another races ships as in the ones you start with.

If you start in Gallente or Minmatar space, I should be reasonably close to where you start and might be able to pass along some stuff I have left over from earlier missions, which is mostly Minmatar gear. Some guns, some missile launchers, stuff like that.

Other than that, play what you like, as there is no real best race in the game. Only more or less flexible ones. ;-)

Covert Ops for me it is then ;) Must say I'm looking forward to giving it a try, no boot camp needed as it has a mac client and a group of people to try and find me while I hide behind the 4th moon

Ok since we got some new/returning people, i'll knock up a little guide over the next day. The primary focus of it will be a beginners skill guide and what skills to get trained ASAP( i'll help with $$ ) so that you set yourself up with faster skill learning and decent support skills (defense and fitting). I'll warn you though, it is pretty meh for 2-3 weeks learning all of them since they arent all nice shooty shooty skills but it really will help you out staying alive and learning the higher rank skills and level V skills.

Another thing, since some of you are missioning for ISK, i would suggest all running for the same corporation. It actually makes life easier (and more fun) since you can group up for missions (rewards get split between you now unlike old EVE). We used to have alot of CUKers in a a level 4 agent system a few years back and made things more fun.

It doesnt matter about how bad your standing is now to XX corp. Level 1 agents are always open to you now even if your -10

I'm after all the help people have to offer, but I don't want to take ISK or bits from people, as I did try a trial a fair while back and didn't get into it. I'm thinkin Minmitar to start thoiugh I'd go with lots of little damage, I think from my love of DOT's in other MMO's rather than the HUGE nukey spells.

If I can get away with it gonna leave work early and get a headstart on things, I have a link from something Chick did about training skills, I'm assuming that's a good place as any to start ?

And is there such a good thing as a good solo/group player, I do like the sound of Covert Ops but I'm guessing when solo you'd struggle (at least until you get a better spread of skill points).

Covert-ops ships are usually scouts for larger fleets. They don't fight themselves, if they do then you've gone wrong somewhere. In fact neither of my cov-ops ships even have any weapons fitted. They are also almost exclusively used for PvP purposes, they have almost no PvE utility except for scanning down anomalies (kind of like hidden dungeons).

The other main use for cov-ops ships is as courier vessels for small but valuable items in potentially dangerous space as they can break out of gatecamps and avoid hostiles very easily.

If you want to be a stealthy ganker then combat recon ships are the type for that but the skill requirements to even get behind the wheel are pretty steep and they are expensive to lose (which will happen a lot if you don't have the experience to use them properly).

I've no real concept of what I want to do, main thing is I don't want to end up so focused on PvP that if I'm on in a quiet time I can't do anything else

If anyone wants an invite for the 21 day trial let me know...

I;ve trained a cov ops ship. But as im not into Pvp yet I've not bought one. Im tempted for the novelty though. Join the CUK channel as well once your in, that way you can get some questions answered etc.

I just dabble these days but im still about now and then

If people are for joining Gallente then im in Berye and Halle (i think they're spelt that way) running for the intelligence service.

If people are running around Gallente or Minmatar space, I am close to both. I am currently running missions for the Gallente Federal Intelligence Service. I also have all the necessary skills to

a) form a gang
b) actually improve that gang due to buffs.

:) I am currently hurrying through level 2 missions, but would be up for grouping. :)

This looks amazing, but I am so confused with all the options....seems like hundreds of possible ways to go with a char!

The noob guides are great and tons of great info on here from folks. This mmo has soo much depth that I don't think it's really for me with the little time or concentration I seem to have right now to spend on it. I can see how peeps can really get into this, but I guess I should just stick to quick fix games for now.

I might revisit it again when RL allows.

Thanks again though for the invite Darakor, much appreciated :)

My missus likes it because it's good for a quick fix. You can just log on, grab a mission or do some mining, exploration or whatever then log out when you're done and not worry about it for a while. Because your skill training isn't tied to your ingame activity you don't get left behind just because you aren't grinding every spare moment.

Just to echo what Req said, one of the things that appeals about EVE is the casual nature of it if you so want (which I do). I can log on, do a mission, set the skills I want to train and that's me done for the day, the skills keep training during the day while I'm at work. At the moment I'm logging on each day as the skill trainer only lets you queue skills up to 24hours ahead, but later on with skills taking days or weeks to train you can really play much more casually than another MMO and be up to speed on skills, just lacking in finances

Exactly the reasons I'm giving it a go at the moment. Real life doesn't allow me enough time to play a normal MMORPG at the moment and "level up" with the people I would play with. EVE seems to let me play in nice 30min / 1 hour chunks and keep the skills going in the meantime.

Currently due to hectic stuff going on at home, i'm flitting between games, mainly xbox as i can sit in the front room and do it, i've resubbed for Eve on both accounts, just so i can finally get my Orca/Mining Gang on again and start saving for a Kronos (Skills are pretty much there now just need a few of the Gunnery skills to V)
